Being patronising to disabled people.

GayGuevara [Edit] [Delete] 11:08, 9 January '13

Let's be honest, any able bodied person who was raised properly is a bit patronising toward disabled people.

If I ever come into contact with a disabled person whilst i'm out and about I go into overkill help mode. I try too hard to help them when they're most liekly capable of looking after themselves. Sometimes disabled people will need a bit of help carrying stuff or opening doors or getting up stairs or getting some direction to the right bus or whatever, but my eargerness to help, even though it's well intentioned, is sometimes probably a bit much to the point it's becomes a bit patronising.

I don't know, must be guilt over my abilist privlege or something.

Everyone else does this, right?

Hmmm, interesting...
