Should you ever ban or suspend discourse on an issue for the sake of people's feelings?

in_limbo [Edit] [Delete] 05:34, 15 December '12

On the Guardian's Newtown shooting live news feed, a lot of the comments were asking for the comments section to be pulled or suspended until more details were known about the incident. And on Question Time this week, Stella Creasy was pleading with Dimbleby to stop talking about the Jacintha Saldanha suicide when the issue came up.

More often than not there'll be inappropriate comments made. But isn't this one of the great things about the internet - the ability to air your opinion and stay on the bleeding edge of the latest news? What do YOU think, buddy?
