Can someone PLEASE explain to me what the point of it is?

I want to own my own home, I don't want to have to worry about landlord inspections/rent increases, I want to be able to decorate however I want.

I really don't understand the point of shared ownership, who are you sharing the ownership with? What's the difference between this and just renting anyway as I have looked at shared ownership and you still have to pay 'rent'.

Can you fill me in?
