You know when you're on holiday (a proper holiday, not a festival) and you don't read newspapers, watch the tv or go on the internet? It's pretty cool isn't it. No being depressed about the economy, no stories about murders or missing children, nothing to bring you down. It's good, you feel free.

Ignoring the news and internet today would have saved me from learning about Scottish independence, a hacker not being extradited and an old bloke pouring a beer over a babies head. I don't think I'd be any worse off for not knowing about any of these things.
