Stories please, about having to apply for your own job

boydungud [Edit] [Delete] 15:46, 12 October '12

So, my company has this morning informed me that the three-person team I work in is being reduced to two people in the near future.

I think all three of us will be applying for the two positions on offer - although I've been told I could take voluntary redundancy and get four months' pay (although it seems a bit risky, as I've always kept half an eye on jobs similar to what I do and there aren't many).

Has anyone been through this process? What are the interviews generally like? Are they like normal interviews or are you questioned more closely on what you've actually done for the firm?

To make it fairer, the company is getting two managers from a different office to do the interviews, so they don't know us and we don't know them.
