Is Ed Miliband really going to try and sell himself as a man of the people against David Cameron's supposed posh-ness? (education-centric)

GayGuevara [Edit] [Delete] 11:38, 2 October '12

At his speech to the Labour Party conference today, Ed Miliband will "repeatedly drawing on his own experience at a London comprehensive – implicitly contrasting his own schooling with the Eton-educated David Cameron's".

Really?! Is he mental? You know what helps you succeed at comprehensive school? Being the son of a millionaire Marxist academic. An academic who happens to be good chums with that other hereditary millionaire Marxist Tony Benn who happens to be able to guarantee you an internship straight out of school. And let's not forget that Miliband went to the same primary school as that other well known class warrior, urrr, Boris Johnson.

It's a shame, and i'm annoyed, because i'm actually very supportive of the main thrust of his speech, which is to shift focus away from a (New Labour) univeristy-for-all type approach, and a commitment to ensuring that more vocational courses are given the same societal and employer credence as supposedly academic degrees. But if he tries to turn into a class war, he's going to end up looking like a bit of a dick.

Hmmm, interesting...
