if you could erase someone from your memory (Eternal Sunshine style) would you do it?

hedgehog [Edit] [Delete] 22:16, 10 September '12

If you could erase a relationship/friendship/event/period of your life and carry on without having the memory of it any more, would you do it?
Yes/no? Why? Details etc

I used to be very much of the opinion of 'if I had my life to live over I wouldn't do anything differently because I've learned from my mistakes and good things have come from my decisions which makes the bad parts acceptable' so I would think that having these memories helps me learn...

However, more recently I think there's definitely a few things I'd 'erase' if it were possible. One of my relationships and the mess of the break up and the shitty months that followed. I would definitely erase that as it still causes me annoyance despite it being several years ago and I can't stop it from popping up in my thoughts every now and again.

I'd also erase a friendship I had that blew up very badly in recent months (flatmate saga spin-off thread etc) and I get very angry thinking about all the things that happened and even though this obviously happened quite recently and over time the anger will fade a bit (hopefully!), I'd still rather erase that person from my memory as it causes me a lot of stress, annoyance and upset to the point that I wish I'd just never met the person, ever.

Anyway, go.
