we recently started playing through FF7 and doing it from memory when it came to secrets etc

then came the occasional glance at a guide - having the safe combination in the shinra mansion written in front for example

now my flatmate is using it to find the occasional glitch or to rush straight to where killer items maybe hidden rather than waiting or exploring

is this a step too far?
