I was at the athletics the other day, and it slowly dawned on me that everyone was white. From my seat I could clearly see maybe 1000 faces, and I could only see 3 black people. Why? It seems weird given the diversity of Newham and of the athletes.
Is it cos, like Wimbledon, it's basically a white middle-class event? But many ethnic minority folks from London must be interested in watching sport, right? Is it cos the crowds come from across the country, so reflect the whiteness of the UK as a whole? Is it cos many people have flown in from Europe, which is generally pretty white? I dunno. Not sure this has a point, just struck me as very odd. Kthxbai.
