'I'm lonely - is that so odd?'

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/jul/21/marion-mcgilvary-lonely-empty-nest

It's not like I'm permanently snooping around for this sorta thing, I actively avoid life, style, lifestyle, life + style wherever possible. But here it is, Guardian's most-read article - again, for the 14,000th time this year, right there, in plain English -

'We're all so popular now, so connected. Social networking is the buzzword. We have all these new verbs – we blog, we Skype and tweet our thoughts in fewer than 140 characters. We post our status on Facebook and talk and surf constantly on our mobiles so that the trains or buses in the evening are a sea of heads, all bowed as though in prayer, worshiping their Blackberries and iPhones, tap, tap, tap – the rosary of the text message....'

WE TWEET WE TEXT WE CALL WE LINK WE SKYPE; WE PROD AND POKE AND MAIL AND CHAT AND BUZZ AND TREND AND SHARE -

(now here's the gut-punch) BUT DO WE LAUGH AND LIVE AND LOVE?????

Really? There's only so many thousands of times that nice middle-aged ladies should be allowed the space within national publications to tortoise towards their own private Eureka moment. Next week: Marion McGilvery proudly unveils - 'Natural Selection'
