trying to fix my mum's laptop, loads of family photos are on it that haven't been backed up so it's really important. taken it to my uni's IT services and they've said the hard drive's broken and needs the exact same one bought for it before they can transfer the data over

only i've got no idea about hard drives, up until today i've been spelling it as hardrive :'( so, how do I go about finding a new one, googling "VPCEA636FM/V hard drive" is getting me nothing conclusive. How much should I expect to pay for one? Does it have to be the same model as the laptop? I don't even know the model, just that its a "caribbean green" sony vaio laptop
