But is there any precedence for this? Given that several currencies are on the brink and spending their children's taxes before they're even paying them, there's a pretty good chance this decade won't end well.

Will people just get to keep the property they're in and the government will press a reset button? Will people riot and just take what they want? Will money become worthless and things we take for granted like vegetable patches become things people trade with / fight for?

Sounds a bit like a half baked idea for a BBC Two drama all this. But yeah... Just curious if there has ever been a situation like this before?
