two or more characters says something along the lines of "excuse us" and then fuck off to one side to have a private word whilst leaving a (usually) single character to twiddle their thumbs. Really fucking rude, and not something that happens IRL. They used to do it ALL the time in Friends, and now do in HIMYM.
