The immigration changes proposed by Theresa May

hip_young_gunslinger [Edit] [Delete] 11:41, 11 June '12

I don't usually do politics threads but this weekend my girlfriend read about this is in the paper and cried about it for 30 mins, so I feel like taking an interest.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/jun/08/immigration-rules-couples-stark-choice

So basically, if my US national gf, who has lived here for three years, working a productive and well paid job, paying taxes and contributing in every way, were to lose her job, even if we married she would not be able to stay here because I don't earn enough.

It's total bullshit, right? Basically saying, if you're wealthy, you can do what you like. It's awful. So what are the chances of this being passed? And what can be done to stop it?

NB The Sunday Times yesterday seemed to be quoting another figure

PS Apologies if this thread has been done over the weekend, give me a link if so.
