the other day, I was cycling past a stretch of green land by the Mersey called Ladybrook, and I had a flashback of the only previous time I'd ever been there.

I was six, my sister was eight, and we were walking home to nearby Bramhall from Cheadle Hulme. our mum decided to take a short cut.

only shortly after diverting down the valley, we see what appears to be a naked man up on the hill, not close by, but still, for a single mother and her little children, fucking terrifying.

so we leg it back to relative civilisation, and our mum reports it, and we go home the normal way. I think there'd been a murder nearby in the recent months, which only added to the terror.

I think I was actually kind of calm when it happened, but the memory is genuinely unsettling, and I can't bring myself to go back, certainly not alone.
