alcohol in Scotland now at a minimum price of 50p per unit

commandercool [Edit] [Delete] 10:22, 15 May '12

so, as of this morning, Scottish ministers have decided that alcohol's going to be priced at least 50p per unit.

I don't really have a problem with this. Largely because it doesn't really affect me but I'm also questioning whether it'll actually price people out of buying cheap spirits/cider/buckfast. People addicted to a substance generally find a way to pay for it no matter the cost.

Also someone said that it'll make a crate of Stella cost £30 which is hilarious. Haven't looked into the maths on that one though..

I'm hoping that the extra profit made by supermarkets will be taxed and will pay for work to address the roots of the problem, not sure if this will happen though, it'll probably be used to build tram tracks and bring exotic animals to our zoos...

What do you think?

Sub-question, when was the last time you bought booze that would be affected by a change in price like this?
