That's right, it's a boring politics thread!

So there's a real push at the moment for cities to get their own elected mayors in the style of London and New York. The idea is, they become a figure head for the city (how many people can name the leader of their district council?), get stuff done, get people more interested in politics, and so on and so on. Critics say that politics needs less in the way of personalities and more actual substance.

I am undecided.
