Before YOU write a song, how do YOU start the very early work on it?

TheComedian [Edit] [Delete] 20:22, 17 April '12

What I mean is, you want to start to write a new song and you have nothing. Where do you start?

I am trying to find new starting points, you see. I would normally hear a song, perhaps a new one and think, "I would like to do something like that" but short of ripping it off I don't really know how to work on a song that was inspired in such a way. Either that or I would kick around a bass line or guitar chords but I never end up happy and get pissed off with it. I have written songs, but of late I seem to have lost the path to creation and completion.

I guess it would be wise to start with the verse/chorus and vocals and then go back and add the intro and other parts.. Intros do help to set the scene and push you on with ease, though.

So, you?
