VAT will now be payable on ALL hot takeaway food, not just that which is sold in fast food outlets. As a result, a Greggs sausage roll (previously 90p, though regional differences apply) will now cost £1.08, thereby breaking the psychologically important £1 mark.

Similarly, a pasty will now cost an unbelievable £1.79.

What's that? No longer value for money so you'll go to Sainsbury's for a rotisserie chicken instead? Well, be prepared to pay an eye watering £6, rather than the previous £5.
