What has changed recently that makes the usual depictions of the future in film seem a bit wrong?

Elaina_Casoolare [Edit] [Delete] 14:51, 17 February '12

In Star Trek 2009 last night they had a cop chasing the young joyriding Jim Kirk, and he was all covered up like a Robocop and was like "CITIZEN, BLAH BLAH BLAH" in a kind of Robocop voice - basically, your standard futuristic cop. But last night I thought no that's not what the future is going to be like anymore, it was going to be like that but something has changed. I think people are nicer to each other now or something or police won't have the power to be rude robots, or we won't need scary police robots because crime will go down not up. What do you think? Is it just a bit dated or has something shifted?
