People from the land down under let me know - Vegemite: fridge or the pantry?

Personally, I grew up in a vegemite goes in the pantry household, but Mrs M insists on keeping it in the fridge. Insanity for two reasons:
a) how much fucking salt is there in it? Why on earth would it need to go in the fridge?
b) it makes it harder to spread.

People from other lands you can tell me what you do with the filthy abominations that are promite and marmite.
