Fussy beggar - anecdote time

jacques_le_biscuit_ [Edit] [Delete] 09:33, 14 February '12

On the train after football on Sunday a grubby looking homeless man got on and stood next to me. He then gave quite a well delivered speech to the whole carriage along the lines of "Sorry for disturbing you tonight, I know it's annoying but I'm hoping some of you can help me out. All I'm looking for is a bit of change, some loose coppers if you have them, or any food that you can spare me'.

He then walked along the aisle and a woman tapped him on the shoulder and offered him an unopened bag of walnuts, he pointed to his sorry looking teeth and said he couldn't eat them. Fair enough. He carried on walking and another woman offered him an orange which he also refused saying "I don't like oranges". Hmmmm.

So it appears beggars can indeed be choosers.

P.S I didn't just write this in order to squeeze in that predicatable punchline. That was just an added bonus.
