My father told me that American Football developed the way it did because the US style of warfare was one of attrition; incremental gains as opposed to the British free flowing warfare which lead to the development of football.  He told me that MC Hammer was the hardest working man in showbiz.  He told me that the apple was nature’s toothbrush, although he’s not alone there.  I took all these (and many better examples that I can’t think of now) as universal truths into adulthood, discovering that a lot were just my dad’s opinions and not fact.  I’m sure there are many more that I have tucked away that I haven’t even discovered yet and possibly won’t.
