How does a band “make it”?!

moker [Edit] [Delete] 10:17, 24 January '12

I’ve been in unsigned shitty bands for years, as have many of my friends. As have probably most people on here. I know of almost no-one, no matter what they do or how hard they work – or how much I think their music is good - to “make it”.

Record deals come in the form of distribution deals only or appearing on compilations or any other kind of halfway house arrangement. I’ve never known any band to “get big” no matter what interest they have, how many fans they have or what nights they manage to play (or headline).

So how the fuck does it happen? It clearly does to a tiny minority of musicians, but how? Anyone know anyone who got big? If so how? Can you shed some light on this?
