Recipe substitutions that don't really work...

urbanfox [Edit] [Delete] 16:15, 20 January '12

I've made/am making (currently in t'oven) some flapjacks.

A lengthy search of the cupboards for Golden Syrup proved fruitless...

There was however, a tin of Black Treacle, so I decided to use this, albeit in smaller quanitity to try and lessen its effects.

I attempted to mitigate it further with liberal amounts of jam and caster sugar, however it still tastes a bit suspect.

So, share your tales of culinary stand-ins that fail to impress.
