Is '90s lad culture to blame for the BNP/EDL?

MajorCriiimes [Edit] [Delete] 14:30, 8 January '12

My favourite fictional tabloid headline. But discuss, I think there could be a grain of truth in it. It's quite disturbing the number of occasions I've encountered comments like "When you go and see the scary blokes with scary politics who go to Oasis gigs." Also, you hear people of a certain age reminiscing fondly about how Ecstasy and rave culture helped end much football hooliganism and reduce the over-thuggish attitudes common in certain towns in the 70s and 80s, but I think it was also a placebo effect that just tucked feral masculine feelings away for a bit, and made the white working class into consumers who "lived for the weekend" (translation: stuck in a rut, not going anywhere) and all that tedious bollocks.

You only have to look at the ignorant attitude of a lot of people round where I live (Clitheroe, East Lancashire) who are into "getting pilled up" and the lowest-common-denominator gash which passes for 'dance music'.. you know, the type who listen to hip hop and like "MCing" but they'll abuse Pakistanis by calling them "black bastards" and all that shite.
