For me one of my favourites is New York: A Documentary. It's an 8 part documentary series charting the rise of New York from its beginnings as a small town in the 17th century. It's interesting because it takes in so many historical periods and social developments along the way. Looking at the history of one city can sometimes be like looking at a microcosm of world history in general. Anyone else have any favourites?
