So that they can get a first time mortgage, yeah?

This just seems crazy to me. Wouldn't it be better to try to STOP house prices rising or even make more housing to lower the price. Or maybe do something to stop all those BTL bastards making renting completely ridiculous. I.e. do something to balance the market rather than throwing money at the problem?
