I just tried porridge for the first time. It's disgusting, I'm so disappointed. I thought it would taste like oats, sort of like a hot liquidy flapjack, but it's just lumpy milky wallpaper paste with no real taste at all. Is it always like this or is it more likely that my work canteen just hasn't made it very well?

I tried putting maple syrup on top and that improved the flavour but I still can't eat it because it's so slimy.
