Annoying but exceedingly nice chap at work.

moousee [Edit] [Delete] 11:17, 11 July '11

There's a guy who has started at my work, and he's a nice chap. He looks like a bit of a toughnut BUT he's a complete nerdalinger. I got to chatting with him in the kitchen, and he noticed that I had been sat reading a graphic novel. He went on to tell me that he loved comics, and started talking to me about them, well, at me really. As time went on, and the clock began to edge closer and closer to the end of my luch, I began to get pretty alarmed. He had been allocated a desk just behind me.

The next day, he decided to tell me that he is massively into warhammer, so I responded with my usual 'I went to the same school that the lads who setup games workshop did, but its not really my cup of tea.'. This hasn't stopped him from talking me through the plot of every work of GW fiction (which I didn't even know existed), and he just continues talking to the back of my head if I turn around.

I've tried everything that I can think of to try to politely stop him from talking at me. There just doesn't to seem any way to do it nicely. I've tried changing the subject to music, just so that there's some variety in the chatter, but now he's jabbering away about Ramstein, and keeps on singing Du Hast at the back of my head. I feel completely obliged to turn around a smile at him.

If he was a horrible person, I'd know how to deal with him, but I don't want to upset the chap.
