New Lonely Planet guide slags off Britain

Ouch. There are some grains of truth in that, though. I don't have a problem with people from abroad criticising our country as long as it's done constructively and without thuggish bigotry. Better than some of the American 'Anglophile' set who see the UK, well England, I mean, just London, as "glamorous indie rock 'n' roll" or a Richard Curtis film of 'hee-lay-rious' upper-middle-class forced eccentrics. Gah!

Funnily enough, the British 00's reminded me a lot of bad 80s Americana, especially the tasteless or 'tense' fashion, and obsession with throwaway, material celebrity culture. Plus the way all that Reaganomic/Blairite consumerist decadence eventually hit a brick wall.
