Yay or Nay?

I was chatting with the gf last night and made the mistake of telling her (half joking) that I was quite shallow. Shallow in that I don't have any ugly pals. Which is true, I don't. This resulted in a lengthy and protracted conversation where I was forced to attempt to back up my flippant and humorous statement with real stuff. THE HORROR, THE HORROR.

But it's true though. I am friends with people I am attracted to, in some way. Mostly physical.

So...

Is it possible in this day and age for gentlemen and ladies to be friends without there being any sexual tension or physical attraction?

Is it possible for men and women to just be platonic friends without one of the parties wanting a little more at some point (maybe after ingesting one too many sherbets or sambucas) and fucking it all up?

I think that it /is/ possible, but then again I started seeing a long term pal a year ago, so I'm probably not best placed to judge this on an impartial basis.
