Roald Dahl

jazz-ballet [Edit] [Delete] 13:01, 24 February '11

saw someone else discussing him in another thread so i thought i'd start this. which books of his do you like best? and has anyone here read his adult fiction?

read a collection of his short stories aimed for adults once, because it had bitch in the title and at the time i was like lol switch bitch by roald dahl what is this. it was pretty dark/perverse (though not explicit), and altogether weird. didn't finish it

but someone on dis had said that he hated children and women...sure, a lot of the child protagonists led shit lives and had no parents, but his stories were mostly about the triumph of the weak (mostly children and foxes) against adults/farmers/giants etc and the rejection of authority

and as for his misogyny, there were a lot of female villains but there were good hearted female characters too, like miss honey weren't there? although apparently her character was written in support of marxism, like james and all the other poor/downtrodden but ultimately good/successful people

fantastic mr fox is his best book though
