say you're having a logo designed for your new business and you want to put it on a website...

If you know you'll want to change the background colour later, what do you ask for so you don't need to keep redesigning the logo?

Someone said get a transparent PNG file of the logo, that way you can use something like GIMP to adjust the background colour how you like and keep the logo right.

Is that the way forward?
