If I was to set up a website where I just copied and pasted articles from the Times website - just the text like - and made available on the net for free, would this be breaking the law?

I just read an article on the Guardian website which quoted a Times article extensively. It just made me wonder whether they would have had to pay for that, or whether... well you get the idea.

Would this be legal?
