Fender Mustang Players

iShotTheDeputy [Edit] [Delete] 16:17, 19 August '05
I'm considering buying my mate's 1974 Fender Mustang.

Now they have that funky pickup phase thing to cancel...er...something (hum?). The only person I ever knew who played on was Lina of The Edmund Fitzgerald and since I am obviously not in any sort of correspondance with her I turn to DiS.

What are peoples' thoughts on them? I did once fiddle with said guitar briefly and wasn't convinced but then Cobain seemed to like them.

Are there good tricks to getting the best sound out of them? Is the pickup phasing thing just a load of bollocks or can it be used to make the sort of children-scaring noises for which Sonic Youth are justly famous.

(Yeah, I realise the Youth use Jaguars for extra-coolness but one of those isn't on offer and they can be a bugger with that floating bridge shit.)
