Top Of The Pops used to be fucking brilliant. Thursday night at 7, we'd sit around and listen to the songs of the day, singing along (when 888 meant subtitles, not online poker) and loving it. And, no matter who you are (unless you're one of those snobby idiotic 'no smiling allowed, pop music is shit' types), you must have memories of some ace performances (even if they weren't live) from when you loved the POP. So, what are they?

For me:
Gloria Gaynor doing the re-release of 'I Will Survive', 1993-ish. It was just brilliant, camp disco singalong fun, and made me happy at the time. She got the crowd to sing. Maybe I was sexually confused at a young age? Who cares! 'Go on now, GO!...'

Sebadoh 'Flame' - I'd just realised indie was ace, and then this happened. I thought anything was possible. It must have been slightly before, but I remember listening to the Charts on Radio1 waiting for Today by The Smashing Pumpkins, and I truly, truly believed it could have been a Number One record. Got to quarter-to-seven, and it didn't appear. Checked the charts the day after...and Number 43 or something. Then I realised justice didn't exist. Sebadoh remind me of this time.

All Seeing Eye w/ Jarvis Cocker - 'Walk Like A Panther' Should have been Tony Christie, who I'd never heard of at the time. It wasn't, and Jarvis came out. This was when he was the KING OF THE WORLD, and around his appearance on Pop Quiz, when he got every question right. This made me realise that unashamed POP music could be fantastic, and slagging it off isn't big or clever. Pop music is nerdy and cool.

And many more, but I've been typing for hours here. This is an unashamed excuse for not-really-that-old-at-all nostalgia, so please, go ahead and reminisce.
