I just opened my PC and it installed a 'microsoft update' and directed me to a site to 'validate' the update

basically it's this
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/About.aspx?displaylang=en

question is - if I validate it is microsoft going to search my hard drive for illegal software and mp3s? or is it just going to validate that my xp is real and legal?

and if I don't validate - will it assume that my XP is counterfeit

advice please!
