Okay, so maybe expected, but look at comparable films in the English language, and for the same group the rating is nearly always 9+. Something like 'Before Sunset', or even Cinema Paradiso, should seemingly be liked more by a young female audience than male - yet there's a massive difference between the scores. I just picked a few classic/highly acclaimed films off the top of my head - so I'd imagine the picture's pretty much the same throughout.
