a people auction?

you know, the kind they do for charity.

last night i went to belfry bar (my student bar) to see the digby football team get auctioned off to raise money for the team.

i dont really get the point of all this. alot of them had girlfriends who had to fork out to stop their lover from ending up on a date with another girl. my friend christian (who is way too poor at the moment to be paying for ANYTHING) had to put £20 of his own money in with his girlfriends to try and make sure she got him.

but this isn't what i really don't understand about poeple auctions. what i have most trouble with is, what do you REALLY get for your money? in this case the team had been quite clever and organised a mass date on thursday where they'll take the girls who bought them out. but usually its just a 'buy a guy/girl for a night type deal' and what can you really do? realistically who's gonna say, "right, i payed £80 for you, get down there and pleasure me!" it's be pretty sweet but i doubt that actually happens.

so, has anyone ever taken part in one of these? bought someone? been bought? what did you get/have to give?
