bwt (breakfast with thommo): Rock And Roll Turns Fifty

thommo [Edit] [Delete] 09:40, 27 February '07

...or rather, the idea of teenagers and rock and roll turns fifty, as we're talking about Rock Around The Clock and not Rocket 88 or anything. In a way, it's comforting to know that a balding, slightly chubby bloke with a kiss curl and dodgy optical complaints who dressed like Noddy Holder's stockbroker and couldn't hold a note in a coal bunker with both hands became the catalyst for 'yoof culcha' and everything considered 'hip' and 'trendy' and 'well wikkid' for the next half a century.

BUT, do teenagers exist anymore? i mean, of course they do because there's that bit in between 12 and 20 etc, but ina time when even your grandparents have a vlogcast, politicians are going on about how much they love hoodies and your Dad's downloading The View for his iPod because they remind him of the Jam, is there enough angst and rebellion to keep the idea of juvenile delinquency alive? And even if there was, is there any point?
