I think they are pretty much strong support for the argument that Americans are all generally stupid.

Take Ugly Betty for example. Its almost for children. Everything is so simple and predictable, it often approaches cringe levels. The 'baddie' sits with her back to the camera in a blue room in a spinny chair, as her grunts report to her. She even does evil laughs at the end of scenes.

Then there's the music. Its really naff. Its like that New York bar band sound. Jazzy clarinet music, to create some kind of mysterious atmosphere at certain times.
