Politics.

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 17:37, 12 January '07

Since I'm only 16 and I'm an idiot, can someone tell me:

How come Brainlove called me a Tory for supporting the Death Penalty? I wouldn't vote Conservative at the moment. I think they're a joke to be honest. I didn't know the death penalty was in their policies, either.

Secondly, I think people with more left-leaning views tend to act really badly about it, on DiS anyway. In a discussion about something like the death penalty, people opposing it tend to put their arguments forward in a really condescending way. They act as if they are actually right and if you disagree with them on something that makes you look slightly right wing, you deserve petty insults. They also tend to throw the word 'ignorant' round.

I find it slightly contradictory to their principles though. I'm not an expert on left-wing politics, but basically, they believe in equality and that everyone should have equal rights and be allowed to exercise their views freely etc.
It seems like there are double standards here though. You're free to do what you want, and anyone who wants to oppose you is a fascist (like the BNP with their anti-Islam stance). But if I say I think we should bring back the death penalty for certain crimes, left-wingers insult me and say I'm ignorant and immature, and a Tory.

Its like you're saying 'Yeah, everyone can do and say anything they like. But hold on a sec, if its something that I disagree with, then I'll call you a fascist and an ignorant cunt. You aren't allowed to say things like bring back the death penalty, because I don't like it.'

Yeah?
