Lunch with Prole: You can remake a film but could you re-write a book?

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 12:28, 11 January '07

Think about it, could you, if you were some sort of 'respected' author, get away with re-writing a book, leaving the same name and characters etc but re-writing it in your own style - I know Anthony Burgess wrote near perfect Sherlock Holmes stories and even a book called 1985 (I think) but could you imagine say, Ian McEwan re-writing Cold Comfort Farm, or Tom Sharpe having a go at The Sorrows of Young Werther (original by Goethe, SMUGPROLEFACT).

Who would you like to re-write WHAT book and would it be as valid an art form as a remake of say, Cape Fear or Spiderman (depending upon your mental level).

Well?
