Generations

thewarn [Edit] [Delete] 09:57, 3 January '07

'Every generation blames the one before'.

Wise words indeed, from Mr Michael Rutherford T. Mechanic.

However, how are 'generations' defined? It seems that if you're maybe as few as five years older/younger than someone, they can claim to be 'of a different generation' as you have slightly different cultural reference points. This really grinds my gears. Surely 'a generation' should be a term used to describe groups of people with a SIGNIFICANT age gap between them? How can a 'generation' be any kind of useful measure when people are being born EVERY GODDAMN DAY, NOT IN MASSIVE WAVES EVERY 25 YEARS.

I'd love to be born in a massive wave?

Feel free to turn this into a thread about the Inspiral Carpets.

I'm old.
