laptop advice

utm_usic [Edit] [Delete] 17:16, 29 December '06

i know very little about computers, but, with the aid of a cheque from the inland revenue (which should be here soon!) and months and months worth of working dead hard and stuff, i'm thinking of buying a new laptop.

i paid silly money for my hp pavilion from comet about two years ago and it never really worked properly. i paid nearly £1500 for a laptop that was totally above what i needed. plus it never worked.

i amn't making the same mistake again. basically, i need a cheap-ish laptop (£500-ish would be good) that would be quick enough to run ableton and stuff. i'd also want to be able to use it for live music at some point, so it'd need to be upgradeable. yeah? i don't really know what i'm talking about.

any suggestions? anywhere to avoid? apart from comet, i'm already avoiding there.

thanks!
