... was wondering today, do most groups actually make a loss on touring? For example, dj shadow on friday, brixton, £20, four hours, two support bands who presumably have to be paid, hire of venue, promotion, flights or bus or whatever, hotels, blah de blah. All of this at £5 an hour? I guess they make money on merchandise and stuff too (cds were £15 burned straight after show for example). But it must be hit and miss as to whether they make a profit or not??? Yes with the big names like madge, george michael etc, people are prepared to pay a fortune.

What do people know about it all? Enlighten me.
