I'm going to be ultra-contraversial and ignore the obvious choices saying "Batman: The Animated Series".

This is simply blindly good. It's dark when it needs to be but isn't trying to be all 'adult'. The Mask of the Phantom episode incorporates some good ideas from Year One and the animation style is simply 'mint'.
