If you could afford to, would you put your children into private education?

I've often thought about this. I have no idea why, as I suspect I will never have the money to do it. But I've always been really strongly opposed to the idea of private education. I'm not sure if it stems from some inherent concept of 'otherness', like an 'us against them' kind of thing, but I've always believed that a person will make their own way, regardless of the supposed quality of opportunities given to them

I'm well aware that this may all change if and when I do have a child, and the well being of said child becomes paramount over these pretty much childish stubborn beliefs. I also used to be against the public perception that university is a must if you want to succeed in life and actually didn't originally do a degree for this very reason. But then I tried getting a job for a year, and realised that maybe it'd be better to just swallow my pride and get on with enrolling

What do other people think about this? Are state schools really that shit now that if you could, you would put your child into private education?
