unsafe sex

nice_squirrel [Edit] [Delete] 13:26, 24 October '06

I've been thinking about this, as there's a lot of stuff in the papers today about whether contraceptive advice should be given to primary school children.

What I'm intrigued to know, is why do people of my generation and younger in this country ever have unsafe sex? Why is this still such a big problem? Since I was about 12, I haven't been able to move for the amount of safe sex messages thrown at me, from school, TV, magazines etc etc. All forms of contraception are available for free relatively easily, and even if you can't get time to go to the doctors, condoms don't cost loads.

I would never dream of having unsafe sex, as I'm too scared of getting ill/getting pregnant/dying, and everyone I've slept with has been the same. But I've got a few friends who do and I'm honestly not sure why. Because they've somehow managed to miss all of these messages? Because they think nothing bad will happen to them? I'm intrigued.

I fail to see how sex education earlier will help, if people my age still ignore the messages. Thoughts?
